Bla(g), Bla(g), Bla(g)

HUM.  Didn't think I would ever do this but I'll give it a go.  What will I do here?  Oh, probably a little bit of everything...life, opinion, crafts, etc.

I gave myself a Christmas present of work done around the homestead:  New window, new 15 light door, redesigned hall closet, closet organizer, deck, and updated light in the kitchen

SOMETHING had to be done to the 70's lighting in the kitchen.  Didn't want to do anything really expensive since eventually I would like to redo the kitchen, take out the soffits and raise the ceiling.  My sister, a designer and lighting specialist, suggested that I purchase colorful panels to go in the spaces and sent me a link.  Alas, at $130 a panel it was way out of my price range especially for something temporary.  I'd seen these before at my dentist office, when you are leaning back in the chair you can see clouds or fish.  The web site also showed stained glass patterns.  I decided "why not make my own."

In the past I have done faux stained glass in old window panels and still have the supplies in the closet and it would probably work.  I liked the idea of the clouds best and they would be quick.  Went to orange box store and purchased three cracked ice panels for less than $7 each.  Spread out the drop cloth and got busy.

Thinking back I probably should have done something (liquid sandpaper maybe) to the smooth side to give it some tooth.  I started by squeezing white where I wanted the clouds and dabbing it with a sea sponge.  Then I used two blues (morning glory &  blue diamond) for the under coat, just squeezed on and dabbed.  Worked on the white some more then added the final blue (royal blue).  I would suggest wearing gloves when doing this project but it peeled off fairly easy (just left blue stains around the nails for a few days).  I would also suggest locking up the cats, although once Izzy touched the wet paint she jumped back and ran.

Stay tuned and I'll show you what the other projects look like...

UHg not a lot of color there

Doesn't do much for it with the lights on.
But looks great with the lights off!
